Julian Popov: The energy renovation of the Bulgarian building stock will cost €60 billion

The energy renovation of the Bulgarian building stock will cost approximately 60 billion euros at the moment, said the Minister of Environment and Water Julian Popov at the conference “Energy efficiency of the building stock: basis of the sustainable energy transition”, which is being held today in Sofia, reports BTA.

In his words, if our country goes with the approach of 100 percent public resource for the renovation of buildings, then

the Bulgarian building stock will forever remain in the People’s Republic of Bulgaria”.

Minister Popov believes that it is very important that politicians focus precisely on the mobilization of those resources that will quickly renew the building stock. However, these resources are not state-owned. He thinks that the funds should be used only for innovations or as “leverages” that can mobilize real resources.

It is also necessary to think about how innovations should enter the building stock,” added Minister Popov.

According to him, these innovations cannot be seen in Bulgaria and our country should allocate resources for them.

In order for us to be able to solve the issues with Bulgaria’s building fund, we must give very serious different financial instruments to mobilize the huge financial resource that is not in the state, but in the people and companies, and direct a significant public resource to stimulation of innovations and innovative approaches in the renovation of buildings”, pointed out the Minister of Environment and Water.
