Lidl Bulgaria, Philip Morris Bulgaria and SOF Connect are the big winners in the first edition of the ESGnews.bg “ESG AWARDS 2024” contest. The three companies were evaluated by the jury with the highest marks in each of the categories in the questionnaire and received the highest distinction “Visionary for sustainable change”.
Lidl Bulgaria is the company evaluated by the jury with the most points (388 points), followed by Philip Morris Bulgaria (380 points) and SOF Connect (369 points). The winners were awarded by the honorary chairman of the jury of “ESG AWARDS 2024”, George Kremlis, a member of the Board of the European Organization for Public Law and an honorary director of the European Commission.
ESGnews.bg announced the winners in the other four categories as well, presenting also the two special awards of the site.
Category “Sustainable Strategy”
The winner in the “Sustainable Strategy” category is Nasekomo, a high-tech company that takes low-value raw materials from agriculture and turns them into protein for farm animal feed and fertilizer for organic farming. The award in the category was presented by Prof. Hristo Pimpirev, director of the National Center for Polar Research at Sofia University and Chairman of the Board of the Bulgarian Antarctic Union.
Category “Sustainable Investor”
Yettel Bulgaria won the award in the “Sustainable Investor” category. The award was presented by Antonio Hautle, Executive Director of the United Nations Global Compact Network in Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
Category “Sustainable Supply Chain Management”
In the “Sustainable Supply Chain Management” category, the winner is ProCredit Bank Bulgaria. The financial institution was awarded by Bonnie Mansi, General Manager of Hilton Sofia.
Category “Sustainable Leader”
The leading textile services company Lindström Bulgaria was awarded in the “Sustainable Leader” category. The award was presented by Ivaylo Georgiev, head of “Sustainability and relations with institutions” in Aurubis Bulgaria.
Special prize on ESGnews.bg
The special award of ESGnews.bg went to Billboard AD, a major producer of advertising materials for outdoor advertising – billboards, megaboards, building packaging, interior advertising. The prize was presented by Boyan Tomov, owner of Brand Media Bulgaria and ESGnews.bg.
Prize of the readers of ESGnews.bg
The ESGnews.bg readers’ award went to DMD ECO WORLD – the company that produces compostable alternatives that replace plastics. In the survey on the site, which this year was on the topic of recycling, 75.88% of the participants voted for DMD ECO WORLD. The prize was presented by Assoc. Dr. Marina Stefanova, Deputy Dean “Sustainable Development, Support and Engagement”, Head of the Master’s Program “Responsible and Sustainable Management” and Director of ESG Lab and ESG Academy at the Faculty of Economics of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”.
Strategic partners of the first academic ESG awards in Bulgaria are the Bulgarian Network of the UN Global Compact and the Faculty of Economics and ESG Lab of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”.
