The importance of the ESG topic continues to grow and encompass more and more organizations in Bulgaria. However, there are still people who are not convinced of the importance of ESG for business. To understand more about the importance of the topic, companies can organize an event where, with the right approach and a lot of communication, they can change minds and turn their employees into allies and ambassadors of ESG in the company and their communities.
Focus on relevance
For people who aren’t familiar with what ESG is in detail, it can seem like a burden for businesses. During an event like this, the focus can be on the ways ESG increases efficiency, reduces costs, helps attract and retain talent within the company, and increases brand recognition. Companies that do a lot for the community in which they do business can share great examples of how ESG helps in practice.
Targeting scepticism
Some people are skeptical of parts of ESG rather than its entirety. If the event is interactive and allows for ESG topics of interest to be worked on, then participants can get to grips with the chosen topics and so hear about the different aspects. The goal is to start a conversation, not to have participants become ESG experts with one event.
Stories of success
When an event is structured in a way that allows for both a theoretical and a practical part, then irrefutable facts and figures can be shown about the economic benefits of ESG, but also inspiring success stories can be told.
It is always the closer examples that are more influential – regional or those from the same industry. These are easier to relate to, otherwise there is a risk that they sound too abstract and fail to convince him/her of the role of ESG for a sustainable future.
A little encouragement
It is a good idea for everyone who participated in the event to leave with a small gift related to the ESG theme. This could be something for everyday use such as a reusable cloth bag, a water bottle, cloth bags for fruit and vegetables or for bread. Another possibility is a wooden calendar where the date tile is moved at the beginning of the month and can be used forever. Giving “thank you” cards with flower seeds that can be planted easily in a little soil are symbolic gifts as it is, figuratively speaking, a seed planted with ESG ideas, and in time the flowers from it will appear.
